Zongo Youth Wants former Hajj Board Chairman Investigated

A group of youth in the Bolgatanga of the Upper East Region in Ghana has issued a statement congratulating the new Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) which was sworn into office last week and also called for the investigation immediate past Chairman of the board over allegation of financial mismanagement.

The group which goes by the name Vigilantes For a Better Zongo believe that Sheikh I. C. Quaye who is the new Chairman of the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has a rich experience and track-record to steer the affairs of the board, as well ensure a successful incident free Hajj.

According to the leader of the group Jambeidu Issahaku Khan “There is the need to have a forensic investigation and possible prosecution of the previous board over allegation of a financial malfeasance up to a quantum of over Gh23 million. The amount which was supposed to have been paid to some aircraft companies that rendered services to the pilgrims in 2016 was neither paid nor could it be accounted for.”

“Therefore, the immediate Hajj board chaired by Hon. Ibrahim Tanko and Member of Parliament for Yagaba-Kubori needs to be invited to throw light on the Hajj alleged corruption.

The group said that they are worried that possible operational bottlenecks could bedevil the prospects the 2017 hajj unless the airlines are settled”

“Therefore , the Sheikh I. C. Quaye led board is advice to pick lessons by insisting on a proper accountability to facilitate hajj operation this year”.
